Indeed, most of the novel is specifically written as a typical coming-of-age novel; Cameron is a typical ‘90s teenage character who (stop me if you’ve heard this before) has lost her parent, smokes and drinks, and falls in with wrong crowds. I read a lot and this book just didn't catch my attention, then I watched the movie and the same thing happened.
