here's my take on it: Isabelle Huppert (Greta) and Chloe Grace Moretz (Frances) are just magic together, the interplay between them in the early scenes is simply sublime (Greta playing piano, making soups, playing French music, the wining and dining, the 'hello sweetheart' and so on), and up to the point when Frances discovers the cupboard in Greta's house (I will not spoil it for you) I was captivated by the early scenes, the gentle and seductive romantic build up between the older French (Hungarian) woman (Greta) and Frances works so well. In my opinion, it would have made a magnificent film if that theme had been developed all the way through with no horror built in, it could have included Erica (Maika Monroe) as the jealous girlfriend, something along the lines of Patricia Highsmith's 'Carol'.
